Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan, favourite to win the men's singles in tennis, retired due to injury during the second singles of the team event against Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
Denis Istomin won the first set 6-3 and he was leading in the second 2-0 when the Thai star threw in the towel.
Danai Udomchoke beat Murot Inoyatov 6-3, 6-0 while Sanchai and Sonchat Ratiwatana defeated Inoyatov-Istomin 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 as Thailand won the quarterfinals 2-1.
