The German tennis star had scripted her own fairytale by beating Martina Hingis in the final in Paris. The couple, after a well-publicised courtship, married in 2001.
The influence of Graf, known for her focus on the tennis court, had on Agassi was visible as he went on to win four more Grand Slams, three of which after the grand old age of 30, and developed an uncompromising work ethic.
Agassi put his love and appreciation in words as he inducted Graf to tennis' Hall of Fame.
'At the end of each day I have picked up the chalk and tried to express the many things you mean to me. You have always been about the action not about the words. You have never defined yourself by what you have achieved, rather you have achieved by how you define yourself. And even now, it has taken my breath away to see how you've quietly laid down your racquet to pursue love and motherhood with the same zeal and high standards you have always demanded of yourself.'
