After winning the first set quickly, Karatantcheva became jittery once the final four came within reach. Serving in the second set, she found herself two points from 5-3, but dropped that service game and then her next to fall into a third set.

Karatantcheva, once again content to retrieve until her opponent faltered, watched Likhovtseva commit 57 unforced errors. But even those were not enough to overcome an admitted lack of confidence on such a grand stage.
