India's Karan Rastogi stormed into the singles and doubles semi-finals after coming through hard-fought wins, in the $10,000 ITF Futures Tennis Tournament at the South Club in Kolkata on Thursday.
Unseeded Rastogi overcame formidable Nick Munroe of USA 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in a tight quarter-final encounter that included a thrilling second set.
After cruising through the opening set, the Indian trailed 2-5 in the second before forcing the set into extra points. Rastogi was down 2-5 in the tie-breaker as well before he made a gallant recovery to book a semi-final berth.
Earlier, Rastogi and Ashutosh Singh of Delhi advanced to the doubles semi-finals after accounting for US pair Nick Munroe and Chris Kwon 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 in a marathon thriller that lasted three hours.
