Former world number one Jennifer Capriati will miss the U.S. Open while she continues her recovery from shoulder surgery.
Capriati, 29, has not played since hurting her right shoulder last November. She had surgery in January.
The 42nd-ranked Capriati was one of only two women players in the top 100 who will skip the U.S. Open, according to the tournament entry list.
Argentina's Paola Suarez, world number 87, will also miss out as she recovers from a hip injury.
Champions from the past seven U.S. Opens, including the world's top-ranked player American Lindsay Davenport, are entered in the two-week event, starting on August 29.
