2005 Davis Cup
It was supposed to be an historic occasion for Ljubicic; he was one win short of matching John McEnroe's 1982 feat of 12 straight victories in a Davis Cup year and had not lost a single Cup match in the season.
But the world number nine woke up with a stiff neck and was unfit for the rigours of a five-setter.
Ljubicic looked shattered after his three hour 20 minute defeat by an inspired Hrbaty, but thanks to Ancic he could still celebrate the end of a stellar year.
"I'm the happiest loser in the world today," said Ljubicic, who was a doubt for Sunday's reverse singles.
"I would like to thank Mario [Ancic] for bringing the winning point. It was a great effort, it's a fantastic win."
