Carlos Moya ended the U.S. Open hopes of a second American wildcard on Thursday with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Amer Delic.

Similar to his first round match against Brian Baker, the Spanish third seed did not have everything his way against an opponent armed with a booming serve.

Delic, appearing in only his second grand slam tournament cracked down 23 aces during the two-hour contest but Moya's greater experience eventually told.

Moya, who has now chalked up 56 victories on the tour this season, said playing against wildcards presented new problems.

"When you play these guys you don't know anything about them, what their strengths and weaknesses are.

"It took a while for me to work it out but luckily with five-set matches you do get a bit more time."

Moya, a semi-finalist at Flushing Meadows in 1998, plays Belgium's Olivier Rochus in the third round.
