D'Cunha, Suresh left out of football World Cup qualifer

Injured East Bengal medio Alvito D'Cunha and defender M Suresh are the prominent omissions in the probables' list for India's World Cup football qualifier against Japan next month.

Injury forced the duo to miss East Bengal's 1-1 draw against Geylang United of Singapore in the AFC Cup match in Kolkata on Wednesday.

Also left out from the 27-member list, announced by All India Football Federation on Thursday, are medios James Singh of Mahindra United and K N Ajayan of Vasco, both of whom had figured in India's 0-5 loss to Oman in Kochi in March.

The list includes some new, exciting talent from the Tata Football Academy like Jerry Zirsanga, Gourmangi Singh, M Habibour Rahman and Debrata Roy.

The probables have to report for a camp, starting on May 20 in Margao.

The probables:

Goalkeepers: Naseem Akhtar (Mahindra United), Prasanta Dora (Mohun Bagan), Sangram Mukherjee (East Bengal), Mark Mascarnhas (Churchill Brothers), Abhijit Mondal (Dempo).

Defenders: Mahesh Gawli (East Bengal), Habibour Rahman M (TFA), Satish Bharti (Mohd Sporting), Deepak Mondal (East Bengal), Debrata Roy (TFA), Selwyn Fernandes (Vasco), Debjit Ghosh (East Bengal), Covan Lawrence (Mahindra United).

Midfielders: Climax Lawrence (Salgaocar), Subhas Chakaborthy (East Bengal), Gourmangi Singh (TFA), Sameer Naik (Dempo SC), Renedy Singh (Mohun Bagan), Jatin Singh Bisht (Salgaocar), S Venkatesh (Mahindra), Jo Paul Ancheri (JCT), Jerry Zirsanga (TFA).

Strikers: Bhaichung Bhutia (East Bengal), Abhishek Yadav (Mahindra), R C Prakash (Dempo), Bijen Singh (East Bengal), Ashim Biswas (Mohun Bagan).
