Mustafa Ghouse and Vishal Uppal claimed the doubles honours while wild card entrant Somdev Varman continued his giant killing run with an emphatic win over Frenchman Jordanne Doble to march into the singles final of the ONGC ITF Futures men's tennis tournament at Kolkata on Saturday.
Varman, who had upset top seed Bulgarian Todor Enev on Friday, accounted for the seasoned French campaigner 6-2, 6-3 in a little over an hour in the semi final at the Saturday Club.
The 19-year old displayed a wide array of strokes and made well-timed forays upto the net to catch Jordanne off guard to make his maiden appearance in the singles final of an international event.
Varman, already assured of 8 ATP points, will cross swords for the title with Bulgarian Yordan Kanev, who got the better of Vinod Sridhar 6-4, 6-3 in the other semi-final.
Kanev dominated the 73-minute tie, serving five aces and backing them up with delectable returns to which the Indian had no answer.
The doubles final was a one-sided affair as Ghouse and Uppal registered a straight set 6-3, 6-4 win over the Bulgarian pair of Kanev and Todor Enev.
