Veteran midfielder Karel Poborsky's cross gave Smicer a simple chance to grab the winner after Van der Sar had pushed out a fierce shot from fellow substitute Marek Heinz.
Germany will join the Czechs in the last eight if they beat them in their final league match on June 23. If they do not, the winners of the match between The Netherlands and Latvia will go through. If both matches are drawn, the Germans will qualify.
