Robert Pires of France
By his own admission he was a thin, shy Frenchman. Now, Robert Pires is a forceful presence in English football, feared for his attacking powers, brilliant feet, pace and elegant finish.
And this is what Pires had to say after France's dramatic win over England at Euro 2004: 'That was just an unbelievable atmosphere and we are very happy with the result. I suppose it was like the final [against Italy] four years ago but in that match we scored an equaliser in injury time but then got the winner in extra-time. I have never played in a match where we have turned the game around like that to win in injury time.'
