Alessandro Del Piero of Italy
He convinced coach Giovanni Trapattoni to include him as one of Italy's three strikers in the opening match against Denmark.
Del Piero does have a few strikes against him: a sub-par season at Juventus, calf injuries, and a not-quite-sterling performance in a friendly match against Tunisia last month.
And here's what Trapattoni had to say: 'Tell me who else you could play in that position. He's been in that position for months.'
Here are some quick facts about Del Piero. Close friends call him Alex, Ale, Pinturicchio, Godot. He does not call the glamorous Rome or Milan home. It is the peaceful Turin countryside that he shares with fiancee Sonia Amoruso. He still drives his blue Lancia Delta Integrale, which he bought with his first salary at Juventus.
