South African soccer officials are to meet representatives of world body FIFA in Zurich next month to discuss the hosting of the 2010 World Cup.
A four-man interim committee, announced by South Africa last month to set up a local organising structure, will fly to Switzerland on July 8 for a meeting with FIFA general-secretary Urs Linsi, South African officials said on Sunday.
It is the first step in the organisation of the 2010 event, which will be the first World Cup held in Africa.
"It is a symbolic first step and we are very excited about it," said Danny Jordaan, one of the four committee members.
South Africa won the right to host the event in a vote of the FIFA executive committee in Zurich on May 15.
