Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze has joined Manchester United from Paris St Germain, the player told the French club's website on Friday.

Heinze, who has seven caps for Argentina, said he had penned a five-year deal.

"I am now going to play on the other side of the Channel but I will always cast an eye on Paris St Germain's results," he told the website.

Manchester United have not confirmed the transfer or the size of the fee.

The 26 year-old is Manchester United's second signing in the close season after Alan Smith's move from Leeds United.

Heinze, who can play in central defence or left back, joined PSG in 2001 from Real Valladolid after starting his professional career at Newell's Old Boys.

"Manchester were the ones who showed the most desire to sign me but I haven't yet discussed with Alex Ferguson about what he expected from me," Heinze told sports daily L'Equipe on Friday.

Meanwhile, Manchester United's website said Bundesliga champions Werder Bremen were interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Kleberson in a loan deal.
