Marion Jones could challenge for five gold medals at this year's Olympic Games in Athens.

"There's a possibility of going for five golds," the triple Olympic champion, who returns to the track on Friday at the Millrose Games in New York as her preparations for Olympic year get underway, told reporters on Wednesday.

"It's only a possibility."

The American has not raced competitively for 18 months after taking time off to give birth to her son by sprinter partner, Tim Montgomery.

"At the moment I'm just excited to be back. I've missed it."

Jones hopes to win gold in the 100m, 200m, long jump and the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

In Sydney four years ago, she won gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x400m relay and picked up bronze in the long jump and 4x100m relay.

She is the only athlete, male or female, to attempt to win gold in the five events.

However, she cautioned: "Some say the Olympic trials are tougher than the Games. I want to make the (U.S.) team first."

She said she was eager to focus on making a successful comeback, starting with the indoor 60m at Madison Square Garden on Friday.

"I'm nervous," she admitted. "I just want to compete and make sure I put on a good show (on Friday).

"I am stronger than before (the sabbatical)... I just have to make sure I add the speed element as well.

"But I'm confident... I think it is easier coming back in Olympic year because there are a number of things to motivate me."
