Title-holders Border Security Force SF, Jalandhar, and strong contenders Punjab and Sind Bank carved out facile victories in quarter-final league matches of the Indian Oil Servo 109th Beighton Cup hockey tournament in Kolkata on Tuesday.

BSF drubbed local outfit Eastern Railway Sports Association 4-0, while PSB played a blitz second half to prevail over Corps of Signals 4-0.

In the other league matches, Army XI blanked Bombay XI 3-0, and Punjab Police got the better of Tamil Nadu XI 2-1.

BSF took a sixth minute lead through Harbhajan Singh, who scored a spectacular field goal, and bolstered their kitty in the second half with Mangru Tirkey (43rd minute) and Peter Tirkey (50th minute) converting penalty-corners, before Raj Singh scored from a penalty stroke in the 60th minute.

PSB met with a stiff fight from Corps of Signals in the first half. The bankmen went ahead in the 22nd minute, courtesy a field strike from Kulwinder Singh, but the lead was cancelled by Signals' J P Singh three minutes from half-time.

But in the second half, PSB were unstoppable as Sharanjit Singh (47th min) and Mandeep Singh (62nd min) converted penalty-corners to make the tally 3-0. Mandeep got his second goal seven minutes later, displaying fine opportunism.

Army XI also had a comparatively easy outing, as Cyprin Aind scored in the 21st minute from a penalty-corner, before scoring a field goal three minutes from close.

In between, S V Sunil sounded the board in the 64th minute.

In the last match, Daljit Singh (29th min, pc) and Satwinder Singh (47th min, fg) were the scorers for Punjab Police, before Muthu Kumar got the consolation goal for Tamil Nadu XI in the 67th minute.
