The Davis Cup final

Spain finished day one on level terms after Carlos Moya upset Mark Philippoussis 6-4, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 in the second rubber.

Moya had only won nine matches on grass since turning professional in 1995 and not played on the surface since June 2002.

The pundits gave the Spaniard little chance of nullifying Philippoussis' booming serve and natural volley game. Aussie fans turned out in their colourful best to support 'The Scud.'
