The Final Confrontation

Jonny Wilkinson of England kicks a penalty for goal in the first half of extra time.

Wilkinson emerged as the leading points scorer in the tournament with 113 points. He also scored as many as eight drop goals.

The leading try scorers were New Zealanders Doug Howlett and Malili 'Mils' Muliaina, each of whom got seven touchdowns in the tournament, just one short of the record of eight tries in a World Cup set by their legendary compatriot Jonah Lomu in 1999.
