Leander Paes and partner David Rikl of the Czech Republic moved into the men's doubles semi-finals in the Nasdaq-100 Open, the 6.1-million dollar combined ATP and WTA Tennis Masters event, in Key Biscayne, Florida, on Wednesday.
In their quarter-final match, the sixth seeded Indo-Czech pair defeated second seeds Jonas Bjorkman of Sweden and Tood Woodbridge of Australia 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/5).
Earlier, the duo had defeated the Czech pair of Petr Pala and David Prinosil 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(5) in the first round and the American pair of Donald Johnson and Rick Leach 6-4, 7-6(2) in the second.
They now face the American pair of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, who defeated the Czech pair of Pavel Vizner and Tomas Cibulec 6-7, 7-6(5), 4-6.
Another Indian, Mahesh Bhupathi, partnering Tim Henman of Great Britain, crashed out in the first round, losing to Max Miryni of Belarus and Roger Federer of Switzerland 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.
