India won a gold medal for the third successive day at the Special Olympics in Dublin, Ireland, with the duo of Vijay Rao and Hasit Zatia taking top honours in the men's doubles table tennis event on Wednesday.

Today's gold was the third for India in the Games.

India also won a silver and a bronze in the aquatics event.

Nitin Handigund, a 19-year-old swimmer from Karnataka, won the silver in the 50 metres backstroke, clocking 1 minute 5.77 secs, while Vidhya N Kanthinathi from Tamil Nadu settled for the bronze with an effort of 2 minutes 1.06 seconds.

India, who won a silver in aquatics yesterday, now boast of a total 13 medals from various disciplines including cycling and bocce.

On Monday, India won its first gold when Niraj Mitra of Karnataka finished first in the 500 metres cycling. Kariyappa Kumar (Tamil Nadu) had to settle for the silver in the event.

Yesterday, Ashok Kumar Dalavi clinched the top spot in 'bocce' as India claimed their second gold medal.

India's 83-member delegation is a part of the massive gathering of at least 7,000 athletes from 166 countries at the Games.

The Games do not have upper age-limit, which provides athletes from the 17 to 65 years age-group a chance to  participate in as many as 26 disciplines.
