Salgaocar Sports Club and Mohammedan Sporting today carved out constrasting victories to set up a quarterfinal clash in the Tata Federation Cup football tournament in Kolkata.

While Mohammedan Sporting edged out ITI Bangalore 1-0, Salgaocar gave ample indication of class drubbing Indian Bank, Chennai 4-0 in pre-quater-final exchanges on the inaugural day of the tournament.

Bungo Singh, the livewire of Sporting midfield, scored the winner for his team in the 61st minute following a Syed
Rahim Nabi cross from the left to show the door to the Bangalore outfit, which had difficulty in adjusting to the slushy surface of the Salt Lake stadium.

In the latter outing played under light, skipper Climax Lawrence struck a brace while Dharamjit Singh and Samson Singh scored one apiece as the Goans literallly toyed with their opponents.

Lawrence put Salgaocar ahead in the 15th minute by directing into the net a Sebastio Endro shot following a Tomba Singh flag-kick.

Dharamjit made the scoreline 2-0 seven minutes later when he slotted home with a right footer.

Salgaocar kept up the relentless pressure and in the 37th minute a Tomba Singh floater from the left was sent into the net by Samson Singh with a spectacular diving header.

Leading 3-0 at the breather, Salgaocar scored once again in the 69th minute through a penalty which was converted by Lawrence.

The setpiece was given when an Indian Bank defender brought down Bernard Pires inside their own penalty box.

Sporting and Salgaocar will now clash for a place in the last four on July 30.
