Dishing out an impressive performance, Indian Bank finally managed to break their losing streak and earn a point, playing out a goalless draw against Mohammedan Sporting in the eighth National Football League encounter at Chennai on Wednesday.
Bankmen were a transformed lot compared to their earlier six matches and impressed with their attacking game against the Kolkata team, who were looking to settle scores with the local outfit for their relegation to the second division last year.
Mohammedan Sporting is presently a rung above Indian Bank in the 11th place in the points table.
The Bankmen took a little time to settle down, but after that the Sri Lankan duo of Nadika Jayasurya and medio Fazlur Rahman combined well along with former international Syed Sabir Pasha in attack.
The three came near scoring once each but were thwarted either by the defenders or by goalkeeper Gumpa Rime.
Close to the first half, Sporting saw more of the ball and some good work by Bungo Singh and strikers Nigerian Eden Chiddi and Dipendu Biswas, put the Bank goalkeeper in a spot of bother.
Mohammedan Sporting had their best chance to score in the ninth minute when Bank custodian Edward Felix advanced from the goalmouth.
A tailor-made forward pass by Chiddi was well taken by Nabi but he sent the ball over the cross piece with Felix away from his charge.
