Holland prove too good for Japan

Holland resgistered their first victory in the Six-Nation men's hockey tournament, beating lowly Japan 6-0 at the National hockey stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, on Tuesday,

The victory gave them four points and an outside chance of making it to the final, provided Pakistan and Australia make a mess of their last two matches in the six-team league. Pakistan have to play New Zealand and Australia, while Australia play Malaysia and Pakistan.

Holland play their concluding league match against hosts Malaysia on Thursday.

Japan are the only team in the tournament without a point.

The highlight Holland's big win was a hat-trick by Karel Klaver. He scored the opening goal in the 14th minute and added two more in the 55th and 66th minute respectively.

Teun De Nooijer scored a brace in the 38th and 65th minute while the other goal was scored by Taeke Taekema in the 44th.

Holland coach Joosf Bellaart was satisfied with his team's performance although he said that his team should have scored a bigger win.

"The players started off badly in the opening 10 minutes letting our opponents to take control of the match.

"But the players managed to regroup fast to score six goals in this match.

Japanese's team manager Tochi Nagai was happy with his players though they are the only team without a point in this tournament.

"We are here for the experience and that is one reason why we have not employed defensive tactics against stronger teams.

"I'm confident that the team will be better prepared for next month's World Cup."
