A spirited Tollygunge Agragami of Kolkata forced formidable Churchill Brothers of Goa to drop two points by holding them to a 1-1 draw in the Oil PSU-seventh National Football League, in Kolkata on Monday.
It was the Goan side who forged ahead, when in-form striker Yusif Yakubu converted a penalty in the 50th minute. However, Ashim Biswas restored parity for the Kolkata outfit in the next minute of an eventful second-half, at the Salt Lake stadium.
Tollygunge wasted a golden opportunity to snatch full points when medio Mehtab Hossian shot wide from a penalty-kick, which was awarded ten minutes before the long whistle.
Churchill, who have put up a dismal show so far in the league and were primarily aiming for at least a point from the
away match, took early control of the game and dominated the proceedings in the opening half.
Yakubu, who posed a constant threat to the Tollygunge defence, fired a long ranger in the 23rd minute and also came close to scoring in the 44th minute.
Tollygunge, on the other hand, remained busy organising their defence and could manage to build up meaningful attacks
only in the last 10 minutes before the breather.
With the draw, Tollygunge have four points from three outings while the Goan side have three points from four matches.
