Tennis legends to battle it out

Tennis buffs will have the rare experience of watching some of the legends of the game flaunt their far-from-faded skills at the Tata Tennis Legends' tournament at the CCI courts, in Bombay, on Thursday.

Among the all-time greats in action in a series of singles and doubles matches are the incomparable Bjorn Borg, winner of five Wimbledon singles titles in a row, Guillermo Vilas of Argentina and India's own Vijay Amritraj.

Vijay, who will play England's John Lloyd in the second league match of the tournament, informed reporters that his brother Anand will team-up with 1977 French and U S Open champion Vilas against Borg and Mansour Bahrami of Iran in the first doubles.

The first singles league match will be between Baharami and Vilas.

The six singles players -- Borg, Vijay, Lloyd, Bahrami, Vilas and Frenchman Henri Leconte -- have been divided into two groups of three players each.

Borg will be seen in action only on Friday, when he takes on Bahrami in his first singles league match, while Leconte will play Lloyd the same day. Borg will cross swords with Vilas in his second singles on Saturday.

Borg said the players are very serious and all of them are looking forward to the tournament.

The tournament will be played on a round-robin basis and the best in each group will make it to the final.

Anand Amritraj and Ross Case of Australia will only play in the doubles event.

The finals of will be played on May 6.
