Wayne Arthurs survived a harrowing match with the little-known Heuberger, beating him 6-3 3-6 6-3 3-6 6-1. Seeing success only in the past two years, the 29-year-old Arthurs took almost three hours to defeat the inexperienced Swiss player, who was making his debut in the singles draw.
