Let the Don do it

Cricketing legend Don Bradman was the top choice in an Australian poll for the best person to light the Olympic cauldron at Friday's opening ceremony.

Fifty-two percent backed Bradman in a poll conducted by the telecommunications company Optecom.

He took a hefty lead over swimming icon Dawn Fraser with 22 percent. Next in line with 17 percent came athletics gold medallist Betty Cuthbert.

Cuthbert, now wheelchair-bound with multiple sclerosis, is the current favourite to take the honour before the eyes of the world in Stadium Australia.
