Azhar denies Cronje's charge

Former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin on Thursday evening contemptuously dismissed the allegations leveled against him by sacked South African captain Hansie Cronje.

Reacting sharply to the charges made by Cronje, an angry Azharuddin told this correspondent: "Because the Indian government allowed the Delhi police to expose him, this is in retaliation and counter attack. This has been pre planned after careful thought by South African cricket authorities."

Further, the stylish batsman who is in Hyderabad at the moment, said: "I totally deny the allegations and treat them with all contempt. I am innocent and I am ready to face any investigations that the Indian cricket board may initiate in the matter. How can anyone rely on the statements of a person who contradicts himself everyday."

The former Indian captain refused to go into the specifics of the allegations, but said, "I will be going to Delhi tomorrow and will tell the concerned authorities whatever I have to say."
