India-England clash in world under-15 opener

Seven players have been added to the 14-strong team which won the Asian Cricket Council under-15 championship at Kuala Lumpur last Sunday ahead of a selection trial in Bangalore on July 20, to pick the squad for the Cost Cutter World under-15 challenge in England, from July 30.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India's junior selection committee added Arvind Mann (Rajasthan), Parthiv Patel (Gujarat), Shankar Saini (Haryana), Srinivas Pai, (Hyderabad), Guarav Diman (Karnataka), Yusuf Pathan (Baroda) and Vasu Devdas (Tamil Nadu) to the victorious team.

Mann, Patel, Saini, Pai and Diman were stand-byes for Kuala Lumpur event.

The probables are: Subhash Dixit (UP), Mrigen Talukdar (Assam), Abhinav Kumar (Hyderabad), Ambati Rayadu (Hyderabad), Ashraf Ali (UP), Swapnoj Thakur (Bombay), Palash Das (Assam), Sushil Kumar (Delhi), Nikhil Rathod (Saurashtra), Rajesh Banik (Tripura), Irfan Pathan (Baroda), Panav Raju (Andhra Pradesh), Navin Chowdhary (UP), Tushar Sahu (Tripura), Arvind Mann (Rajasthan), Parthiv Patel (Gujarat), Shankar Saini (Haryana), Srinivas Pai (Hyderabad), Gaurav Dhiman (Karnataka), Yusuf Pathan (Baroda) and Vasu Devdas (Tamil Nadu).

Defending champions India, placed in Group A, meet hosts England on July 30 in their first match. The West Indies and Holland complete the group.

Group B is made up of Pakistan, who were beaten by the Reetinder Singh Sodhi-led India in the 1996 final, also held in England. Sri Lanka, South Africa and Zimbabwe are other teams in the group.

The Group A matches will be played at Eton College while Wellington College will host the Group B ties.

The matches will be of 50 overs a side and International Cricket Council's standard rules will apply.

The opening ceremony is scheduled at the Lord's on July 29, while the semi-finals are slated for August 5 and 8 at Chelmsford in Essex and Hove in Sussex.

The first semi-final will pit the Group A winners against Group B runners-up, while the second semi-final will have Group B winners taking on Group A runners-up.

The second semi-final and the final, to be held at Lord's on August 10, are to be telecast live by the Sky Sports network.
