Statistical Highlights 2nd match: India v Pakistan at Brisbane, 10-1-2000 (d/n)
This match was the 1537th in Limited over international (LOI) history.
This match was India's 426th and Pakistan's 445th in LOIs. Pakistan has now appeared in maximum matches than any other country in LOIs.
This match was the 79th meeting between the two sides.
India was playing its seventh match while Pakistan was playing its 12th at Brisbane.
Sameer Dighe became the 128th player to appear for India in LOIs. At 31 years 95 days he became the fifth oldest to make an appearance for India in LOIs. He also becomes the oldest LOI debutant for India in the last 20 years. Dilip Doshi - was 32 years 349 days - when he made his debut against Australia at Melbourne, 6-12-1980. The oldest debutant for India at 36 years 138 days still remains as Farukh Engineer against England at Leeds on 13-7-1974. This match incidentally was India's first ever LOI match.
Dighe also becomes the 14th player to keep wickets for India.
Wasim Akram was appearing in his 283rd match which equals the tally of Salim Malik - the most matches by a Pakistani in LOIs.
Ijaz Ahmed was appearing in his 50th LOI match against India. He becomes the fourth player to do so against India in LOIs. The others being Sri Lankans Arjuna Ranatunga (56) and Aravinda deSilva (54) and Pakistani Salim Malik (52).
VVS Laxman was making a coming back to the Indian team after missing 44 LOI matches and after a gap of 14 months. He last appeared for India at Sharjah against Zimbabwe on 11-11-198.
During his innings of 61 (when on 31) Sourav Ganguly became the third Indian after M Azharuddin (1582 runs in 61 matches) and Sachin Tendulkar (1138 in 37) to reach the 1000-run mark against Pakistan. He also becomes the 12th batsman to reach this milestone against Pakistan.
Saqlain Mushtaq's two wickets in the match takes his tally to 55 wickets in 34 matches against India. He now becomes the highest wicket-taker from any country to do so against India. He betters the previous tally of 54 wickets in 39 matches by fellow Pakistani Aaqib Javed.
Wasim Akram's wicket of Javagal Srinath was his 50th against India in 41 matches. He joins fellow Pakistanis Aaqib Javed and Saqlain Mushtaq as the third bowler from any country to capture 50 or more wickets against India.
Srinath recorded his sixth duck - the maximum by an Indian against Pakistan. Now only West Indian Gus Logie has more - 7 ducks - against Pakistan.
Shoaib Akhtar's 3-19 was the best figures by a Pakistani against India in Australia. He betters the previous best figures of 3-27 by Imran Khan at Melbourne on 20-2-1985.
Yousuf Youhana's 63 was the highest score by a Pakistani against India in Australia. The betters the score of 62 by Aamer Sohail at Sydney on 4-3-1992.
Srinath's four wickets takes his tally to fifty against Pakistan in his 32nd match. He now becomes the fourth bowler to do so against Pakistan. The others being West Indians - Curtly Ambrose (67 wickets in 40 matches), Courtney Walsh (65 wickets in 52) and Ian Bishop (52 wickets in 31).
The partnership of 49 runs between Youhana and Wasim Akram fell just one short of Pakistan's best for the 7th wicket against India which still remains as the 50 put on by Salim Malik and Wasim Akram at Calcutta on 18-2-1987.
Had the additional four runs been awarded to Pakistan off the last ball of the match the unbeaten partnership between Saqlain Mushtaq and Waqar Younis of 47 runs would have been a record for Pakistan's for the ninth wicket against India in LOIs. It would have bettered the best of 45 runs (also unbeaten) between Salim Malik and Saqlain Mushtaq at Toronto on 17-9-1996. However with the umpires only awarding a single (the winning run), the Saqlain-Waqar partnership yielded only 43 runs and is now the second best for the ninth wicket against India.
Pakistan's victory provided the 15th instance of a team winning a match of the last ball. It was the fourth such occasion for Pakistan, while it was the third such loss for India. India has had lost to Pakistan at Sharjah on 18-4-1986 and to England at Jaipur on 18-1-1993.
This was Pakistan's first win over India in four LOI matches in Australia.
It was Yousuf Youhana's third man of the match award of his career in his 34th match.
