Statistical Highlights 14th match (2nd final): Pakistan v Australia at Sydney, 4-2-2000 (d/n)

This match was the 1556th in Limited over international (LOI) history.

This match was Pakistan's and Australia's 453rd LOI. Both the teams have now appeared in maximum LOI matches than any other country.

This match was the 57th meeting between the two sides.

Shahid Afridi was appearing in his 100th match of his career. He now becomes the 18th Pakistani and the 102nd player in LOI history to do so.

The run-out of Mark Waugh was his 28th such dismissal of his career in 188 matches. He now equals the tally of Allan Border to become the Australians with most "run-outs" in LOIs.

Australia' total of 337-7 was its highest ever in LOIs.

It betters its previous highest of 332-3 against Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 2-5-1990.

It betters its previous highest score at home which was the 329-5 against India at Adelaide on 26-1-2000.

It was the highest score recorded on Australian soil. It betters the previous highest score of 329-5 against India at Adelaide a week ago (see above)

It betters its previous highest score against Pakistan which was the 324-8 at Karachi on 6-11-1998.

It was the fourth highest total made against Pakistan in LOIs. The highest scores are listed below:

Waqar Younis' bowling figures of 4-0-38-0 was the second least economical by a Pakistani bowling a four over spell in LOIs. The worst still remains with Asif Mujtaba who had figures of 4-0-43-0 against England at Nottingham on 20-8-1992.

Incidentally Waqar's figures was the worst figures ever recorded by any bowler bowling a four over spell against Australia. The previous worst figures of 4-0-37-0 was recorded by another Pakistani Shoaib Akhtar at Lord's in the 1999 World Cup final on 20-6-1999.

Saeed Anwar (16) when on 15 reached his 7000th run of his career in his 197th match and 194th innings. He becomes the third Pakistani after Javed Miandad (7381 runs) and Saim Malik (7171) and the ninth batsman in LOI history to do so.

Ijaz Ahmed recorded his sixth duck against Australia in LOIs. It was the maximum ducks scored against Australia in LOIs. He betters the previous dubious record of South African Allan Donald who had five ducks against Australia. Incidentally it was Ijaz Ahmed's 14th duck of his career in 245 matches.

The five wickets by Glenn McGrath takes his tally of wickets against Pakistan to 31 in 17 matches. He now becomes the highest wicket-taker by an Australian bowler against Pakistan in LOIs. He betters the previous best tally of 28 wickets by Terry Alderman.

This match provided the fifth occasion where three Pakistani batsmen recorded ducks in the same innings against Australia. In the last match at Melbourne a similar occurrence had taken place for Pakistan.

The loss by 152 runs was Pakistan's third worst result in terms of runs. The other two worst losses were the 198 runs defeat against England at Nottingham on 20-8-1992 and 157 runs defeat against South Africa at Johannesburg on 12-1-1995.

Australia's previous largest win over Pakistan in terms of runs was its 87 run win at Sydney on 25-1-1984.

It was Australia's 21st win in the last 24 matches. During this period it has lost only two matches (against Sri Lanka at Colombo on 31-8-1999 and against Pakistan at Brisbane on 9-1-2000) while one match ended in a tie. Since its last loss on 9-1-2000, Australia has now won eight matches in a row.

The title was Australia's 19th tournament victory in LOIs and its first after winning the World Cup in June 1999. It was Australia's 13th World Series Championship win out of the 21 series played so far since 1979-80. The other teams to win the series are: West Indies on six occasions, while England and Pakistan have won it once each.

The man of the match award was Ricky Ponting's seventh of his career in his 101st match.
