This match was the 59th meeting between the two sides.

Tendulkar, during his innings of 40, when on 5, reached his 2000th run as a captain in his 59th match. He thus became the tenth captain to reach this milestone. He also becomes the second Indian after Azharuddin (5239 runs in 174 matches) to do so. Tendulkar now has 2035 runs (avg 39.13).

Tendulkar, at the end of his innings, became the highest run-getter at Singapore. He now has 253 runs (avg 63.25) in 4 matches. He betters the previous aggregate of 217 runs by Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya in 4 matches.

This match was the 46th which had to be declared as a "no-result". It was the 18th such match involving India and the seventh by the West Indies. It was also for the first time the two teams were involved in such a result. Incidentally, the first ever match played at Singapore at the Padang on 1-4-1996 between Sri Lanka and Pakistan was declared as "no-result" as rain interrupted play after 10 overs.

This was the second occasion when a final match of a tournament had to be replayed due to rain. The final of the Standard Bank series at Durban between South Africa and India on 12-2-1997 had to be replayed the next day on 13-2-1997 due to rain.
