Peter's first real girlfriend, Gwen is an intelligent blonde who understands the way his mind works. In one of Spidey's most significant story arcs, the Green Goblin kills Gwen by dropping her off a bridge. Spidey fails to save her and often broodingly considers that his attempt at rescue might have killed her.
