Kamala Harris is now the first woman, the first Black American and the first Asian American to hold the country's second highest office.
Earlier, Kamala's younger sister Maya Harris had shared a video, saying, 'You can't know who Kamala Harris is without knowing who our mother was. Missing her terribly, but know she and the ancestors are smiling today. BidenHarris2020'.
Kamala and Maya are incredibly close and the sisters have been together through it all, as these pictures reveal.
'That day when a little girl from Oaktown became the first black woman to be a major-party vice-presidential nominee... So incredibly proud of you, sis!' Maya posted this image shortly after it was announced that Kamala would be Biden's pick for running mate.
The 55-year-old California senator becomes just the third woman to be selected as the vice presidential nominee on a major party ticket.
Then Alaska governor Sarah Palin was John McCain's running mate in 2008 while New York Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro on the Walter Mondale ticket in 1984.

From the moment Kamala announced her campaign for the 2020 Democratic presidential race on Martin Luther King, Jr Day, no one spent more time at her side than Maya.

'Don't sit around and complain about things, do something.' This was the mantra given to Kamala and Maya by their mother who was born in Madras and traveled to the US to attend a doctoral programme at UC Berkeley.
