Indian Army's military policewomen

Basic military and advanced provost training was given to the first batch of women recruits at the Corps of Military Police Centre, Neelasandra.

The Corps of Military Police is the first in the Indian Army to recruit women in its ranks.

The training of the first batch of 99 military policewomen -- selected from 4,000 women who applied -- began on January 6, 2020.

 


Rhododendron on verge of extinction

Environmentalists and scientists are worried that rhododendron flowers are on the verge of extinction in Himachal Pradesh.

The state declared the pink Rhododendron as its 'state flower' in 2007, as a way of lending protection to this endangered wild flower species.

 


B-town divas dazzle!

Date: April 4
Location: Mumbai

Bollywood divas Deepika Padukone, Aditi Rao Hydari, Gauahar Khan and Karishma Tanna were snapped in Mumbai.

Deepika, who will be seen next in '83, was spotted in Bandra, north west Mumbai.

So was Aditi, who was captured by cameras stepping out of an electronics showroom.

Gauahar paid a visit to her office in Versova, also in north west Mumbai.

Karishma maintained her fab abs with a visit to her gym.

Looking fabulous in red, Nora Fatehi, who will soon be seen in Satyameva Jayate 2, paused for the shutterbugs in Mumbai.

 


Giant king cobra rescued

Date: April 4
Location: Nagaon, Assam

A stunning 16-feet-long king cobra was rescued at a tea estate in Nagaon.

The massive snake weighed around 20 kgs. It was later released safely into its natural habitat.

 

 


Arch ready for world's highest railway bridge

Date: April 5
Location: Reasi, Jammu & Kashmir

The bottom arch of the world's highest railway bridge -- that will span across the Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi region -- has been completed.

"At present, it takes 12 hours via road (Katra-Banihal). After the bridge is ready, the distance via train would be halved. It is expected to be complete in two years," says Ashutosh Gangal, general manager, Northern Railway.

Interestingly, the railway bridge -- which is 1.3 km long and built at a height of 359 metres above the river -- is taller than the Eiffel Tower.

 


Seven-year-old Drishti's Guinness record

Location: Navsari, Gujarat

Seven-year-old Drishti Jaiswal has made it to the Guinness Book of World Records for her feat on the gymnastic front walker.

Earlier, this record was held by a 22-year-old athlete.

Drishti has been practising for this unique achievement for four years. She has done it 64 times in a minute.

 

 


Politician by day, weaver by night

Location: Komarapalayam, Tamil Nadu

S Subramani is a political leader by day and a weaver at night.

He earns a living through weaving and uses the hard-earned money for his election campaign.

Subramani is contesting the Tamil Nadu assembly election from the Komarapalayam constituency as a CPI (ML) candidate. His aim is to work for the weaver community.
