US announces $10-mn bounty on 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed

The United States has announced a bounty of $ 10 million for the capture of or information leading to the capture of 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

Apart from Saeed, his brother-in-law and co-founder of LeT Abdul Rehman Makki now carries a bounty of $3 million on his head, US Undersecretary of State for political affairs Wendy Sherman told officials in her maiden visit to India, said media reports. 

Saeed, one of the most wanted terrorists in the world today is the chief of the banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa and the founder of the Lashkar-e-Tayyiba.

Since the November 2008 attacks, which killed 160 people, India has been pressurising Pakistan to arrest Saeed, but Pakistan has maintained that they have no evidence against him.

Despite an order barring his entry into Islamabad, Saeed has been holding public meetings in the city, many in the presence of Pakistan's politicians.

On top of the list of the most wanted terrorists in the world in the world is Al Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri after the killing of Osama bin Laden last May. The US has $25 million on Zawahiri's head. Saeed is in the second rung -- joining the ranks of Mullah Omar and the Qaeda chiefs of Iran and Iraq, all of whom carry a reward of $10 million, said reports.
