IN PIX: Who is the richest minister of all?

Union ministers recently declared their assets to the Prime Minister's Office which put it up on its web site for public knowledge. We compared these declarations to the ones that some ministers made when in 2009, and here's what we found.

Interestingly, in his 2009 election affidavit, as available on nationalelectionwatch.org, Nath did not list his two sons, and daughter-in-law's assets. However, he has filed a detailed affidavit on the prime minister's office web site, listing all this and more.

In wife Alka's name: Rs 1,41,20,000.

In son Nakul's name: Rs 41,43,795.

In son Bakul's name: Rs 64,41,473.

In daughter-in-law Simran's name: Rs 20,61,145.

According to Kamal Nath's 2009 affidavit, he and his wife had a cash and bank balance of Rs 1.18 crores.

In wife's name: Rs 2 crores app; In son Nakul's name: Rs 1.15 crores app; In son Bakul's name: Rs 60 lakhs app; In daughter-in-law Simran's name: Rs 1.08 crores app.

In his 2009 affidavit, Kamal Nath and his wife had listed combined share holding worth Rs 2.57 crores, NSS, postal savings of Rs 56.22 lakhs, and LIC of Rs 43.50 lakhs.

Jewellery

Gold 300 gm, valued at Rs 3,00,000.

Wife Alka has jewellery at cost of Rs 9.25 lakh, son Nakul has jewellery at cost worth Rs 6.75 lakh, daughter-in-law Simran has gold and silver worth (as per wealth tax return) Rs 1.89 crores.

In his 2009 affidavit, Kamal Nath and his wife had mentioned jewellery worth almost Rs 19 lakhs.

Immovable Assets

Kamal Nath owns land and building in Sultanpur village, Delhi, which cost Rs 1.5 crores.

Wife Alka lists property in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh worth Rs 6.89 lakhs, and in Panchsheel Park, New Delhi, worth Rs 1.87 crores.Son Bakul has half share in two Bengaluru flats, worth Rs 39.7 lakhs and Rs 87 lakhs. Daughter-in-law Simran owns the other two halves in these flats, worth the same. Apart from these, she also owns a villa in Gurgaon worth Rs 1.09 crores, and a half share in a Surendra Nagar property worth Rs 3.15 crores.

In his 2009 affidavit Kamal Nath had mentioned 60 acres of agricultural land in Shikarpur village worth Rs 34.7 lakhs, a building in Sultanpur village worth Rs 2.45 crores, a Friends Colony, Delhi, house worth Rs 5 crores, while Alka owned a house in Shikarpur worth Rs 23 lakhs and an apartment on Siri Fort road in Delhi worth Rs 24.65 lakhs.

Other assets

Kamal Nath has listed a computer worth Rs 45,000, a Tata Nano worth Rs 1.96 lakh, and an Ambassador car worth Rs 4.84 lakhs. The rest of the family owns no cars. 

In his 2009 affidavit he had mentioned the Ambassador car along with a Mahindra Scorpio worth Rs 6.5 lakhs.

No surprises here, everyone knows Antony is a simple man, and his assets declaration reflects it.

Rs 1,82,477 in two accounts in SBI.

Wife Elizabeth has two accounts in Canara Bank, with Rs 1.72 lakhs in them, while son Ajith has Rs 20,200 in fixed deposit with Canara Bank.

In his 2009 affidavit, Antony and his family had listed Rs 1.34 lakhs. According to it, listed by nationalelectionwatch.org, Elizabeth had an LIC policy worth Rs 1.10 lakhs, and Rs 10,000 in NSS. One of his dependents had Rs 60,000 in an ICICI Bank account.

In his 2009 affidavit as per nationalelectionwatch.org, Kanthi held no property while Alagiri held two plots of agricultural land worth Rs 15.9 lakhs, one building worth Rs 54 lakhs, one house worth Rs 43 lakhs.

Honda City worth Rs 1.4 lakh and LandRover worth Rs 1.2 lakh while Kanthi owns a Toyota Innova worth Rs 5.35 lakhs and a BMW worth Rs 75 lakhs.
