Students set July 10 deadline for Telangana state

The Osmania University Joint Action Committee for Telangana has set July 10 as deadline for the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre to announce the formation of the Telangana state.

The students would also take part in the rail roko programme from Thursday onwards.

Meanwhile, the pressure on the government is building up.

In New Delhi, all talks have failed and none of the packages offered for Telangana have been accepted by the leaders.

Congress general secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad who met with the leaders briefed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about the demand made by the Telangana leaders.

Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, government employees joined the JAC's 48-hour bandh call.

There has been enhanced security around the houses of Danam Nagender and Mukesh Goud -- ministers who hail from the Telangana region who have not yet resigned.

Nagender and Goud have always spoken about a greater Hyderabad and said that they would await the decision of the high command.

Schools, colleges, shops and other commercial establishments were closed and public transport services were hit due to the bandh in all Telangana districts.

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) suspended its services at various places as a precautionary measures and commuters had a tough time reaching their destinations.

The bandh supporters held demonstrations and stopped vehicular movement at various places.

City buses of APSRTC in Hyderabad largely remained off the roads and consequently, the auto drivers had a field day.

Police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of the bandh.
