The International Red Cross called on Hamas on Thursday to provide proof that Shalit is still alive nearly five years after his capture by Palestinian militants.

June 25, 2011 marks the fifth anniversary of Shalit's capture.

The Israel/Palestine has been ongoing for more than 62 years now, with countless casualties from both sides.

Ghayyaz-Uddin, 52-year-old ear cleaner, wears his tools as he waits for customers along a sidewalk in Karachi.

In India, the 'ear-cleaning' doctors are traditionally known as kan mailiye, and can still be seen in small towns in and around north India, Maharashtra and Goa. Most of them are easily recognizable by their headgear, and their tools of trade, namely  a chimti and a salai, which they use for the job.

Pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi (C) and her son Kim Aris (not pictured) visit the ancient Bagan Pagodas in Bagan, Myanmar. Suu Kyi ventured outside her home city on Monday for the first time since her release from house arrest in November, making a low-key visit to the ancient city of Bagan amid tight security.

Her father, Aung San, founded the modern Burmese army and negotiated Burma's independence from the British in 1947.

Her mother was appointed Burmese ambassador to India and Nepal in 1960. Suu Kyi graduated from Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi with a degree in politics in 1964. 

Suu Kyi has  remained under house arrest in Burma for almost 15 of the 21 years that she started her political career from 20 July 1989 until her release on 13 November 2010.

In response to her detention, she received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991.

Noora (R) and Shahrzad Naraghi practice on a motorcross track in the mountains overlooking Tehran July 3, 2011.

Shahrzad Naraghi started riding motocross eight years ago to spend more time with her daughter Noora who became interested in the sport after watching her father compete in races, and began riding motorcycles at the age of four.

The pair raced against each other at first and in women's only motocross races in Iran in 2009. In 2010, Noora travelled to the United States, completed training courses and raced in competitions sponsored by the American Motorcyclist Association.

Women are banned from driving motorcycles on the streets of Iran.

The Czech Republic, Poland and Great Britain also held events in honor of Reagan and his legacy in bringing down the Iron Curtain.

Reagan was the 40th US President (1981-89), and a radio, film and TV actor prior to that. He is remembered for his role in the Iran hostage crisis (1981), rebuilding the military, and bringing the down the Soviet Union. He was even nicknamed 'The great communicator'.

Reagan died on June 5, 2004, after 10 years of Alzheimer's disease, at the age of 93.

Fukui region, host to 14 reactors that dot the coast of the Wakasa Bay, nicknamed the "Atomic Arcade" or "Genpatsu Ginza" (nuclear power plant Ginza), resembles the Ginza shopping district, because it has more reactors than any other region in Japan.

Japan has no easy options to replace nuclear power, which before the crisis supplied about 30 per cent of its electricity, one reason the government is rushing to persuade communities to restart halted reactors to meet summer demand. The No 1 (R), No 2 (C) and No 3 reactors are pictured in the background.

Venezuela's ever-theatrical Chavez made a surprise homecoming on Monday after cancer surgery in Cuba, thrilling supporters and saying he would win the battle to regain his health.

Chavez is the 56th President of Venezuela and has held that position since 1999. In 1992, Chavez had attempted an unsuccessful coup d' tat against the government, leading to his imprisonment for two years.

After his release, he founded a political party, the Fifth Republic Movement, and was elected president of Venezuela in 1998.
