Now Parliament goes out of gear over SM Krishna

Opposition demand for resignation of External Affairs Minister S M Krishna for his alleged role in a mining scam led to repeated disruptions of both the Houses of Parliament on Friday, forcing their adjournment till Monday.

 

Bharatiya Janata Party members raised slogans and demanded resignation of Krishna saying an FIR was lodged against him by the Karnataka Lokayukta Police for alleged irregularities during his tenure as Chief Minister that led to illegal mining in the state.

 

BJP members rushed to the Well in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha soon after Parliament met for the day leading to adjournment of the Question Hour.

 

In the Lok Sabha, the BJP members, led by Ananth Kumar, raised slogans 'S M Krishna istifa do' (S M Krishna resign).

The sloganeering continued for some time and Speaker Meira Kumar, who had called for the Question Hour adjourned the proceedings till noon.

 

"Have shame! S M Krishna, you resign," BJP members chanted in the Rajya Sabha prompting Chairman Hamid Ansari to adjourn the proceedings till noon.


Similar scenes were scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha at noon and the proceedings were adjourned till 2:30 pm.

In the Lok Sabha, the Opposition heard Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's reply to the debate on inflation and staged a walkout after expressing dissatisfaction over it.

As the Speaker called for the Zero Hour, BJP members returned mid-way from the walkout to protest against Krishna.

Addressing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was present, they demanded that Krishna be sacked.

With members unrelenting, the Speaker adjourned the Lok Sabha till Monday.

 

As the Rajya Sabha met at 14:30 hrs, BJP members led by Rudra Narayan Pany and Purshottam Rupala stormed the Well raising slogans against Krishna.

 

P J Kurien, who was in the chair, pleaded with the BJP members to allow private members' business to be taken up.

As the members continued with the protests, the Chair adjourned the Rajya Sabha till Monday.

The Lok Sabha also saw protests from some Congress members from Telangana region who waved banners and raised slogans for a separate state.

 

'Fulfil your commitment, Honour Telangana Sentiment', 'Telangana is People's Demand, United Andhra is leader's demand', 'Two years too late, Honour December 9, 2009 Promise' read some of the banners waved the Congress members.

On 9 December 2009, Home Minister P Chidambaram had announced that the Centre would start the process of forming a separate Telangana state, pending the introduction and passage of a separate resolution in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly.
