Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet United States President Barack Obama in Washington in September to hold their first bilateral talks.

The meeting is likely to scheduled  towards the end of the month between September 26 to September 30.

Modi will be visiting the US for the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York. Obama had invited Modi when he had called the new prime minister to congratulate him on his win in the Lok Sabha elections.

Modi’s visit assumes significance, as this is the first time he will visit the US after he was denied a visa by the George Bush administration following the 2002 Gujarat riots.

Indian ambassador to the United States S Jaishankar will visit New Delhi on June 8 for consultations with the Prime Minister’s Office.
