Residents of Oymyakon, a remote village in far northern hemisphere, do not turn off their cars because they might not start again. Mobile networks too do not work here.
A sign on the road to the village centre reads: "Oymyakon, the Pole of Cold". Quite obvious, considering that the place has the distinction of being the coldest inhabited place on the planet.
The average temperature of the village for January hovered around a comfortable -50 degree Celsius. Comfortable because the village's lowest recorded temperature stands at -71.2 degree Celsius.
According to the Daily Mail, the 500-odd residents of this village rely on the meat of horses and reindeer, and schools only shut down if the temperature goes below -52 degree Celsius.
