The heat wave across parts of India, most notably in the northern parts of the country, is taking its toll.
While North India is sweating it out with temperatures remaining above the 40 degree Celsius mark in many places across the region, parts of Odisha averaged 45 degrees.

According to AccuWeather.com, a building ridge of high pressure is the culprit behind the heat wave and unfortunately it is not expected to weaken anytime soon. The ridge will continue to bring unrelenting heat to northeast India through at least the middle of next week.
Intense heat is a yearly occurrence in the weeks leading up to the rain-giving summer monsoon, which normally begins to overspread the subcontinent near the start of June. Kerala is normally the first part of India's mainland to be visited by the summer monsoon, which then takes several weeks to reach its fullest extent across the subcontinent.
