Mumbai reportedly experienced the highest tide of the season on Friday.

One of the highest tides in the past 100 years, which occurred at approximately 2:03 pm, exceeded 5.05 metres. High tides above 4.15 metres are considered to be dangerous.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had put its staff on alert to counter the effects of the high tide. Though the meteorological department had predicted the possibility of very heavy rains, Mumbai experienced sparse rainfall today.

As a precautionary measure, residents of Varsova, Colaba and others who stay close to the sea shores were asked to be on alert.

The fire brigade, Coast Guard and Navy were also put on alert. Several schools remained closed on Friday.
