Anuradha Bali alias Fiza, the estranged second wife of former Haryana deputy chief minister Chander Mohan, was found dead in her house in Mohali near Chandigarh on Monday with the police in the dark on the cause of the death.
The body of 39-year-old Fiza, a former assistant advocate general of Haryana, was found in her bedroom in a highly decomposed state, Deputy Superintendent of Police D S Mann told the media. "She may have died four to five days back," he said.
Mann said that preliminary investigations did not indicate any scuffle between her and any other persons in the room and the cause of the death could be ascertained only after the postmortem report.
A forensic team has reached the spot to gather clues from the room on the ground floor in which her decomposed body was found lying on her bed.
"At this stage nothing can be stated on whether it is a case of suicide," Mann said.
No suicide note has so far been recovered, Mohali SSP G S Bhullar said. The police opened the house after neighbours reported foul smell coming from there.
Bali hogged the limelight after her marriage with Chander Mohan a few years back in 2008 when he was the deputy chief minister of Haryana. However, after his controversial marriage Chander Mohan was disowned by his father and former chief minister Bhajan Lal.
Having remained incommunicado for several days, the couple had resurfaced after embracing Islam and Bali changing her name to Fiza and Chander Mohan to Chand Mohammed.
Relations later soured between the two and Fiza had attempted suicide last year.
Sources said that she was planning to join the Bahujan Samaj Party.
Chander Mohan had recently buried his differences with his younger brother Kuldeep Bishnoi and joined the Haryana Janhit Congress headed by the latter.

Fiza had also filed a complaint of rape, cheating, intimidation and hurting religious sentiments against Chand. However, he was given a clean chit by the Punjab police.
Former Kalka MLA Chander Mohan, married to Seema Bishnoi, was holding the post of deputy chief minister of Haryana before his conversion to Islam.
Fiza and Chand's nikaah was solemnised by a maulvi (Muslim priest) in Meerut in November, 2008. Chand Mohammad paid Rs 5 lakh as meher (a gift given by the groom to the bride) to Fiza.
After the marriage, Mohan lost his job.
The marriage lasted hardly 40 days with Chandermohan suddenly leaving Fiza's house.

Fiza at that time had alleged that her husband Chand Mohammed was kidnapped from her residence in Mohali. She had pointed fingers towards Kuldeep Bishnoi, her husband's younger brother.
On March 14, 2009, Chand had called her up from London and uttered talaq three times. He also sent her an SMS with the message, she had said.
Fiza, who allegedly attempted suicide last year by consuming sedatives, had narrated her tale before media persons after her newly-wed husband suddenly left her house where he had been staying for the last two months.
Chand Mohammad, the elder son of former Haryana CM Bhajan Lal, after disappearing from Fiza's house was spotted near Raj Ghat in New Delhi by police who took him to the Daryaganj police station. Later, he left the police station saying that he would go back on his own.
Chand Mohammad, however, went missing again only to resurface outside Sector 14 residence of his brother Kuldeep Bishnoi and told TV channels that he was missing his first wife Seema Bishnoi and children and that he could not stay away from them.
Anuradha Bali alias Fiza was earlier married to a Mohali businessman but divorced after one year of marriage.
Bali had also served as deputy advocate general in Punjab.
The news about Chander Mohan's conversion to Islam and second marriage had come as rude shock to the Haryana government as well as his father ex-CM Bhajan Lal.
The chief minister of the Congress-led Haryana government Bhupinder Singh Hooda had Chander Mohan on November 26 on the plea that he remained absent from office.
Bali too was sacked on a similar plea.
Condemning his second marriage as a "shameless act", Bhajan Lal had disowned his son Chander Mohan.
