Power supply in Kashmir was partially restored on Sunday evening after it was cut off following heavy snowfall, which started on Friday.
A senior state government officer said one of the two lines -- 400 KV Kishanpore Wagoora power supply line -- which had been snapped by heavy snowfall in the Pir Panchal mountain range was restored by power grid authorities.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made available a chopper to ferry the power grid staff to the locations where the snapped lines needed repairs.
On Saturday, the engineers from the Power Development Department conducted an aerial survey of the area where lines were snapped.

Restoration of power to Srinagar came as a big relief to the locals who remained without electricity for the past 48-hours facing multiple difficulties in sub-zero temperatures.
Absence of power had severely affected the water supply in the city and other towns. All electrical gadgets could not be operated and routine life in the Valley was badly hit.

The snowfall has also led to breakdown of communication system, like the Internet, landlines and mobile phones.
Abdullah has announced full restoration of power supply in the valley in next 24 hours.

The sub-zero temperature following the snowfall led to intense cold hitting vehicular movement.
Though the skies cleared on Sunday evening, the forecast said weather would remain dry in next 24 hours, as the night temperatures are likely to fall further.
