The issue of Foreign Direct Investment in multi-brand retail sector threatens to rock the ruling United Progressive Alliance's boat.
UPA ally Trinamool Congress has already walked out of the ruling coalition over the issue and the Bharatiya Janata Party has threatened to fight FDI in retail tooth and nail.
While the Congress-led UPA claims that entrance of foreign companies in the retail sector will generate thousands of jobs, BJP and other opposition parties have claimed that it will negatively impact local retailers and farmers.
Both sides are gearing up for a vote on the issue in Parliament on Wednesday. If the UPA loses the vote, it will be a major embarrassment.
Do you, dear readers, believe that India needs FDI in retail sector?
