Karnataka Governor H R Bharadwaj has said that he will not direct the state’s Bharatiya Janata Party-led government to prove its majority on the floor of the house.
He informed the media at Bangalore that there is no threat to the government even if 13 B S Yeddyurappa loyalists resign as MLAs.
He added that that he could convene the budget session of the assembly to be held on February 4. He said that there is no threat to the government at the moment, but also added that if more MLAs were to resign then he would consider directing the government to prove its majority on the floor of the house.
If 13 MLAs resign then floor strength too comes down to 210 and the magic number would be 106. The BJP would have exactly 106 members if 13 MLAs resign and hence they continue to remain in majority.
Yeddyurappa's loyalists would now adopt a wait and watch policy. They would first tender their resignations to the speaker on January 28th.
However, sources close to Yeddyurappa say that in the first installment 13 MLAs would resign. In all they have the support of 33 BJP MLAs who would come out of the government shortly.
