Residents of Kolkata are fuming over the recent gang rape of a 27-year-old mother of two at Maheshtala in the southern fringe of the city.

After the incident, the victim, almost unconscious, was thrown off a moving car.

Her medical report confirmed gang rape, highly-placed police sources told Rediff.com.

The incident has an uncanny resemblance to the Park Street rape that happened a couple of years back.

In this case too, police refused to file a case initially and tried its best to sweep the incident under the carpet.

However, on media getting the wind of the rape late on Saturday, police not only registered a case but hastily made four arrests over the weekend.

The police took the victim to the nearby Employee’s State Insurance hospital close at first, but the latter refused to admit the victim as she was not an ESI member. The victim was then transferred to another hospital.

Though the woman has regained consciousness now, she is unable to speak and can't recognise her kin, her mother informs.
