The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday decided against teaming up another political party to contest the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state, informed BJP general secretary Santanu Bharali.

The BJP high command in Delhi had urged the state unit to take a final call on the issue, he said.

Meanwhile, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is arriving in northeast on
Saturday to address three rallies at Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh, Silchar in Assam, and Agartala in Tripura.

Heavy security arrangements have been made for Modi’s rallies, especially in Silchar, which is located close to the India-Bangladesh border.

State BJP units are expecting a heavy turnout in all the rallies, especially in Silchar, as the saffron party has a strong base in southern Assam.

Large numbers of people are reportedly already flocking to Pasighat, a small township in Arunachal Pradesh, to attend Modi’s rally.

The Gujarat chief minister is scheduled to visit Assam again on March 13 to address three rallies in Lakhimpur, Mangaldoi and Nagaon.
